The "Green" Page
It’s a new way of thinking, a new way of living, and now a new way of organizing! Success by Design has designed a new planner to support environmental concerns. Because we at Success by Design deeply feel that the environment is fragile and needs care, The Green Planner has been created solely of recyclable materials. This planner also focuses on critical issues in caring for the world in which we live.

Success by Design Goes Green!
In caring for the environment, issues such as pollution, water use, waste management, and saving energy and materials are important concerns. Materials that are recycled use less water, less energy, and produce less pollution. In an effort to be environmentally conscience, Success by Design has created the planner in your hand from recycled materials. Check out the details!

The paper:
The paper used inside this book is called Rolland Enviro100. It is 100% recycled, which means that no trees were cut to produce this paper. 1 ton of Rolland Enviro100 paper saves 17 mature trees! Not only does this kind of paper save materials, it is processed and bleached in a safe chlorine-free manner. This processing uses 80% less water than the normal manufacturing process. Finally, the paper is also manufactured using Biogas. This is “green” gas that is generated from waste decomposition in a landfill.

The binding:
The binding for this book was used before in the binding of other books. That binding was collected, melted down, and formed into new binding… which you now see on this planner.

The ink:
This book is printed in soy ink. Soy ink is made using the renewable resource, soybeans. Standard printing ink uses petroleum as its base, but soy ink uses soybean oil that is slightly refined and then blended with pigment, resins, and waxes. Soy ink is easier to remove from paper during the recycling process making it very “green-friendly.”

Our numbers:
Success by Design not only has created this “green” planner, but also has been a part of the green revolution by recycling the paper that flows through our office and warehouse. Through these efforts in one year we have recycled 332,540 pounds of paper. This saved 2,827 trees, 1,163,890 gallons of water, 499 cubic yards of landfill space, and kept 9,976 pounds of air pollution out of the air! We are proud of these numbers and hope you will join us in the green revolution!

The Recycling Program
If your school has decided to participate in Success by Design’s (SBD) recycle program, at the end of the year you’ll be sending your planner back to SBD for complete recycling! There are several steps that occur in recycling your used planner!
1. We will start by disassembling the planners and sorting the corrugated cardboard cover,
plastic coil binding, and paper here at SBD.
2. We will ship the plastic coil binding back to the manufacturer. They then will melt down
the binding, and mold it into “new” binding for another use!
3. The corrugated cardboard cover and paper are sent to a local company who has a paper
baler. This machine compresses the materials into 1 ton bales which are then sent to a
paper mill. At the paper mill the material is shredded and mixed with water to create a
pulp. The pulp is cleaned, pressed, and rolled to make new paper!
